There are four types of sled dog races: sprint races cover short distances of 4 to 25 miles per day; mid-distance races cover 100 to 300 miles; long-distance races cover 300 miles to more than 1,000 miles; and less common are freight races, in which a specified weight per dog is carried in the sled.
